Great save denies Middlewich Town three points at Eagle

2:19pm Thursday 15th April 2010

MIDDLEWICH travel to fourth-placed Gamesley on Saturday.

They extended their recent unbeaten run to four matches with a hard-earned point at third-placed Eagle Sports at the weekend.

It was their third game in seven days, having drawn 2-2 at Knutsford in midweek thanks to goals from Owen Ellis and John Hurst, but they recovered from an uncertain start.

Middlewich, who were missing five regulars and handed a full debut to new signing Richie Sinker, took the lead midway through the first half through leading scorer John Hurst.

They were pegged back on the stroke of half time when home striker Quirk capitalised on a defensive mistake.

“I thought the lads did well on a very difficult pitch against an in-form team,” said Parr.

“Despite missing a few of our more senior players we looked in control of the game for long periods and might have won it at the end only for a great save from their keeper.

“We have played four difficult games on the run now and have remained unbeaten which is encouraging.

“We can’t concern ourselves with other teams and must work hard to collect as many points as possible and see what happens.”

Middlewich: Shaw, Snowden, Shakeshaft, Tebb, Johnson, Sinker, O’Sullivan, Ellis Smith (Hurley), Millington, Hurst. Subs not used: Collins, Williams.
